It was an evening of glamour at Singapore Sports Hub Captains Club dinner on Thursday, 21 March, as guests got to rub shoulders with some of rugby’s greatest players.
The guest of honour was former New Zealand All Black and Rugby World Cup 2011 winner Piri Weepu. Joining him on an expert panel of former and current rugby players were New Zealand Silver Fern and Women’s Rugby World Cup winner Portia Woodman, former Ireland international Neil Best, Sunwolves player Kara Pryor and Co-Captain for Asia Pacific Dragons Nili Latu. Also present were Argentina High Commisioner H.E. Federico Barttfeld and his wife.
The night’s proceedings started with a minute of silence for the victims of the Christchurch mosque shootings. As the guests took their seats, Singapore Sports Hub CEO Oon Jin Teik expressed the good values that sports such as rugby instill during his welcome speech.
Former Singapore international and host for the evening Paul Foster then invited the panelist onstage for panel discussion that was informative and funny in equal measure.
After dessert, guests mingled with the rugby stars with many of them overjoyed at having their picture taken with their idols.
